=====================================================

TC: Dating has it's challenges these days. Never a dull moment. I'm sure it has changed a lot since our parents dated. For one thing, they called it "courting." But, what is your take on the dating scene in DC?

Jay: You've got to take it slow and careful. Back in the day, you could take chances with not much to lose, but now you could lose it all (including your life). Good things come to those who wait sometimes. The women here in DC do get to the point rather quickly which is fine with me. It gives me a chance early on to let them know where I stand.

TC: Tell me about your best qualities?

Jay: I'm a good listener. I'll give it to you straight and honestly. I consider myself very compassionate & trustworthy. I'm the detail guy. I like to do things right or not at all. I don't do stress and drama. I'm a hopeless romantic, very health conscious and giving by nature. I stay in the gym too. I've got one body so, I gotta keep it tight.

TC: What qualities are you attracted to in a woman?

Jay: A woman who knows how to be a woman, takes care of herself, is appreciative, patient and dresses well. A beautiful smile. A good trusting friend with a sense of humor is important. A woman who is more serious than life with a quick temper is a real turn off. The ability to talk about anything with an open mind. A sense of adventure. A woman with a dream and the drive to achieve it.

TC: Are you spiritual or religious in any way?

Jay: Yes. Spiritual in my thoughts and actions. Christ is my best friend. He's never let me down. None of us are perfect and I don't force my beliefs on anyone. I just try to let my light shine so someone else can see the way. I try very hard to do the right thing everyday. I don't want to open the door to bad Karma.

TC: Your career is centered around music, and I believe music choices speak volumes about a person. If I were to check out your CD player right now, what would I find?

Jay: Nat King Cole, Lonnie Liston Smith, Kirk Franklin, Jon Coltrane, Najee, Diana Krall, Santana, Ken Navarro, Sade, Four 80 East, Nancy Wilson, Bob Baldwin, India Aire, Jill Scott, Fourplay, Some P Funk, Joyce Meyer, Joel Olsteen, Audio Books and anything Easy Listening. You don't have enough room for the rest of them trust me. Being a songwriter, my taste is very broad.

TC: What turns you off or irritates you?

Jay: People who know it all and you can't tell them anything. Arguing like it's a second job. Sloppiness. People who won't let me get a word in edgewise. Gossip. Being late and feeling it's okay. Selfishness & boasting.

TC: When a guy like you gets out and into the nightlife, what are your favorite places to hang out in the DC area?

Jay: I like the Jazz clubs when I go out. Theatre, movies, nice restaurants, social functions or a good stage play. I'm not much on the club scene anymore unless I'm working. Been there done that and I've got my T-Shirt and somebody else's.

Favorite Sport: Football (Redskins, of course) and I've got the gear to prove it. Also, shooting pool.

Favorite Movie: Too many to mention. I'm a movie buff. If I had a to choose another profession it would be acting.

Favorite Books: The Bible, "Succeeding Against The Odds" by John H Johnson, and the one I'm writing.

Favorite Foods: Seafood, Soul Food, Italian & Asian Dishes

TC: And when you take a break from the world to unwind for some good ol' fashioned R&R, where is your favorite vacation spot?

Jay: Ahhhhh!. Without a doubt, I'll head for the Caribbean or anywhere there's a beach!
