This
remarkable woman with a spirit
of giving, established a book club
with six members Shelinda, Kim,
Theenie, Donna and Indee who meet
once a month to promote
togetherness among women.
The vision of Black Expressions
Book Club is to provide a network
of sisters to share ideas and
encourage the willingness for
women to grow in life by helping
our families and the community at
large. Currently, the
ladies are gearing up to host a dynamic event
called W.O.E. (Women of
Excellence), saluting and
encouraging phenomenal women in
the DC metropolitan area.
Although Mrs. Robinson is the
founder of these organizations,
her book club sisters are just as
dedicated to the cause of the homeless
and creating a network of
sister-friends. These six
members all gather together to
purchase groceries to make
lunches for the homeless every
Spring.
The annual project has grown by
leaps and bounds, thanks to
tax-deductible donations from
friends, organizations and
businesses.
"This year, we've set a goal
of distributing 1,000 bag
lunches," says Robinson.
"We'll take the food to
wherever we find the
homeless," Robinson
says. Recently, Mrs.
Robinson received a big boost
from St.
Martin's Catholic Church, 1908 N.
Capitol St. NW, which
provided space to her group to
assemble and pack the bag lunches.
This has become the passion of
Mrs. Robinson and the Black
Expressions Book Club. Her
next goal will be to hand out
more than 2,500 lunches.
Judging from her spirit and
determination, Robinson is well on
her way!
To
Olisha Robinson, Black
Expressions Book Club and the
Helping Hand Network....kudos!
Thanks to all of the ladies
for making a difference in the
Washington, DC metropolitan area!
You've made the world a better
place, and for that we salute you!
